AEP

Annual Enrollment Period

October 15 - December 7

During this period, you can:

  • Enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan from Original Medicare
  • Switch between Medicare Advantage plans
  • Switch back to Original Medicare
  • Add or drop Part D prescription drug coverage
IEP

Initial Enrollment Period

7-month window around your 65th birthday

Your first opportunity to enroll in Medicare:

  • Begins 3 months before your 65th birthday month
  • Includes your birthday month
  • Ends 3 months after your 65th birthday month
  • Best time to enroll to avoid late penalties
SEP

Special Enrollment Periods

Based on qualifying life events

You may qualify for a SEP if you:

  • Move to a new area with different plan options
  • Lose employer or union coverage
  • Qualify for Medicaid or Extra Help
  • Have certain chronic conditions
OEP

Open Enrollment Period

January 1 - March 31

During this period, you can:

  • Switch from your current MA plan to another MA plan
  • Drop your MA plan and return to Original Medicare
  • Join a Part D plan (if returning to Original Medicare)
  • Make one change during this period
